Chad and Kasey’s October 28, 2022 wedding at Chestnut Ridge used an acoustic duo for the ceremony and cocktails, then a seven-piece band for the reception. Their selections included The Beatles, The Lumineers, Natalie Cole, and Edwin McCain.
Chestnut Ridge is a mountain wedding venue in Canton, near Asheville. Its indoor reception hall and covered ceremony space keep the different parts of the day close together, with mountain views throughout the property.
Plan portraits around the actual light
Their timeline began with a 4 p.m. ceremony and 4:30 cocktails. Introductions and special dances followed before the 6:10 dinner. The planner reserved time for sunset photographs during dinner and noted that the sun would disappear behind the ridgeline before the published sunset time.
Ask your photographer and venue when the light leaves your ceremony or portrait location. Share that photo window with the band and caterer so it fits with dinner and dancing.
Give every special song a clear cue
Kasey chose “Stubborn Love” for the bridal entrance. The couple requested live versions of “I’ll Be” for their first dance, “My Wish” for the father-daughter dance, and “You’ve Got a Friend” for the mother-son dance.
The dance floor was scheduled to open after the 7 p.m. cake cutting. With a photo booth also part of the reception, the layout needed room for people moving between activities as well as those dancing.
