Ashley and Brett knew what they wanted from their April 1, 2023 wedding at The School House in Travelers Rest: time to dance. Their plan skipped the bouquet and garter tosses and a formal cake cutting, leaving the reception open after the special dances.
They planned a 5 p.m. ceremony, family photographs afterward, and golden-hour portraits from about 5:50 to 6:15. Reception introductions were expected around 6:30. Ashley chose Paul McCartney’s “Maybe I’m Amazed” for her entrance, with “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” in the ceremony music notes for the recessional.
Choose the traditions you want
You can leave out traditions that aren’t important to you. Choose the moments you want, give them enough time, and leave the rest for dinner and dancing.
Once you have made those choices, tell the planner and band what is being left out as well as what is included. That prevents an unnecessary announcement or a pause for something you never intended to do.
Let the lighting change with the evening
We added venue uplighting at The School House for this reception. If you want one room to work for both dinner and dancing, ask what the lighting will look like after daylight fades. Agree on when it changes and who makes the adjustment. Include the photographer so the result works for pictures as well as the room.
Send us your wedding date for The School House and tell us which reception traditions you want to include. We’ll help plan the music around them.
For more detail, see our Travelers Rest page and music timeline guide, or ask about your date.
