What to Check Before Booking a Wedding Band

Before booking a wedding band, check three things: whether you like the live sound, what the quote includes, and how the setup fits your venue. Our questions-to-ask guide gives you a starting list.

Watch live performances in the styles you like

Watch several live performances, including songs in different styles. Look through the repertoire together and pick a few favorites. Ask how special requests are handled and whether the ensemble you are considering can play the arrangements you have in mind.

A first dance can be live or recorded. If a particular recording matters to you, say so. That choice is worth making early, especially if you are learning choreography.

Talk through your venue

Give the band your guest count and explain where the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception will take place. Separate rooms or buildings may need separate sound equipment. Ask your venue about the performance area, loading access, power, weather backup and music end time.

For Soulution, plan a flat, solid surface for the band and venue access at least two hours before guests arrive. Share any stairs, restricted loading times or parking instructions before the wedding.

Ask what happens between sets

Find out who handles announcements, how breaks fit around dinner or toasts, and what guests will hear during them. Soulution provides recorded music during breaks. Give your planner and band the same schedule so meal service, speeches and dancing are planned together.

Confirm the inclusions in writing

Confirm the musicians, coverage times, ceremony or cocktail music, sound, lighting and travel arrangements in writing. Use our guide to comparing wedding band quotes to check the same details in each proposal.

Send us your date, venue and guest count. You do not need a finished timeline to start the conversation.
