How we plan wedding band breaks
We play recorded music between live sets. Here’s how we plan breaks around dinner, toasts, dancing, and the songs you want to hear.
Set and break lengths
We typically play 60 to 90-minute live sets followed by 15-minute breaks. Once dancing starts, there are usually one or two breaks, depending on the timeline. We plan the sets around your reception.
If dinner or speeches run late, we can extend a set to work with the delay. We’ll coordinate with your planner as the schedule changes.
Recorded music between sets
We queue recorded songs during breaks and use your preferences to choose them. Send favorite artists, genres, particular songs, or a Spotify playlist.
Breaks are a place for songs you want in their original recorded form, or requests we aren’t playing live. Agreed live must-plays stay in the live-music plan.
You don’t need to choose every song or put them in order. We respond to the room within your preferences, so we don’t send a fixed setlist in advance. Mark your must-plays clearly.
Clean versions are the default. Your do-not-play choices apply to live sets, recorded breaks, and DJ music. Keep them together in your must-play and do-not-play list.
Quieter music during dinner
We usually play quiet recorded music during dinner so guests can talk. Tell us any artists or styles you’d like to hear while everyone eats.
Please arrange a warm meal for each musician and the sound engineer, usually when guests eat, plus a case of water. Confirm the timing with your caterer and planner.
We usually suggest toasts toward the end of dinner. Toast microphones are included. Add the speeches to your timeline so we can plan around them. See the wedding music timeline guide for the wider order of events.
Put the details on your planning page
You’ll receive a planning page after booking. Start working on it around a month before the wedding, then review the details with us on a call two weeks before. Keep your timeline, music choices, and meal arrangements there.
Your planner is our preferred contact for changes on the day. You can also speak directly with us. Let us know when the schedule shifts so we can adjust the next set.
Copy any useful prompts into your planning page:
- Dinner music: Preferred styles or artists.
- Recorded dance music: Favorite songs, artists, or a Spotify link.
- Must-plays: Mark these clearly, including agreed live requests.
- Do-not-plays: Songs or artists to leave out all night.
- Dinner and toasts: Planned times.
- Band and engineer meals: Timing and catering contact.
- Planner or event contact: Name and contact details.
Check the music coverage for your day
Our five-hour wedding coverage includes cocktail hour and the reception, with live sets, recorded music, and breaks within that time. Ceremony music is arranged separately, outside the five hours. Recorded cocktail music is included when it uses the main setup. A separate cocktail location needs an add-on. Your proposal confirms the coverage.
Ask about an optional DJ finish when we discuss the reception.
Common questions
Will there be silence when Soulution takes a break?
We provide recorded music during breaks. Send your preferences and any requested recordings on your planning page. Music may pause for planned speeches or other moments that need everyone’s attention.
How long are the band’s sets and breaks?
Sets usually last 60 to 90 minutes, followed by a 15-minute break. There are typically one or two breaks once dancing starts. We’ll plan them around your timeline.
Can we share a playlist for the breaks?
Yes. Send a Spotify link or list songs and artists on your planning page. Mark must-plays clearly. Clean versions are the default, and your do-not-play choices apply to recorded music too.
Tell us about your reception
Send your date, venue, and plans so far. We’ll talk through the live sets and recorded music with you.
