Motown & Soul for Your Wedding

If your wedding playlist starts with Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, and Aretha Franklin, there’s plenty to explore with Soulution. Motown and soul favorites sit alongside funk, pop, and singalongs in our wedding repertoire.

Start with the songs you already love

A useful first step is to name a few songs that explain your taste. Perhaps you want the warmth of “My Girl,” the groove of “Superstition,” or a song your family has sung together for years. Those choices give us more to work with than a genre label alone.

Our published song list includes these Motown and soul examples:

  • Stevie Wonder: “Signed, Sealed, Delivered,” “Isn’t She Lovely,” “Superstition,” and “I Wish.”
  • The Temptations: “My Girl” and “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg.”
  • Aretha Franklin: “Respect” and “Chain of Fools.”
  • The Jackson 5: “I Want You Back” and “I’ll Be There.”

Use the list to start a conversation about your wedding. Tell us which songs matter most so we can discuss them with your lineup, preferences, and timeline.

Choose music for each part of the reception

Your first dance, family dances, and open dance floor don’t all need the same feel. A slower song might belong to one specific moment, while an upbeat favorite can help describe the kind of reception you picture. Listen to the lyrics as well as the rhythm when choosing a family dance.

Use our must-play and do-not-play guide to organize the songs you love and anything you would prefer not to hear. If a particular version matters, share that too. A familiar title can have several arrangements, and knowing what you love about yours helps us discuss the music more clearly.

Leave room for your other favorites

A Motown and soul focus can sit comfortably beside other music you enjoy. Soulution’s list also includes Earth, Wind & Fire’s “September,” Lizzo’s “Juice,” Dua Lipa’s “Levitating,” and a range of singalong and first-dance songs. Browse across categories if your tastes span several decades.

You might want classic soul to lead the evening, or prefer those songs mixed throughout a broader reception. Tell us which direction feels right, along with anything you want to avoid. We use your preferences while reading the crowd during the celebration.

Can our reception focus mainly on Motown and soul?

Tell us that preference when you inquire, along with a few songs you especially love. We’ll discuss the musical direction, your priorities, and how those songs can fit the reception. The final music plan is shaped around your celebration.

Can we request a special song that is not listed?

Yes. Share special requests, including first-dance songs, at least one month before the wedding. We’ll discuss the song and arrangement and confirm the details during planning.
